Founded on October 6, 1876, American Library Association (ALA) publishes books, periodicals, newsletters for library and information professionals. ALA also provides continuing education in a variety of venues and formats; offer awards and scholarships; sponsor institutes and conferences; and maintains networks of affiliates, chapters, and other collaborative relationships.
