Technical information about this website’s accessibility

IG Publishing is committed to making its website accessible and aims to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA (WCAG).
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the issues listed below.
Known issues
If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.

IG Publishing know that the library currently has problems in the following categories:

  • Image descriptions
  • Screen reader compatibility
  • Text-to-Speech compatibility
  • Magnification and reflow
  • Colours and contrast

Further detail for all issues are listed below.

Navigation
IG Publishing are confident that all users can navigate around the site without issue but may have some difficulties with different reading options such as the Sample Viewer. All html web pages across the platform contain clear and relevant heading structures to aid in navigating and searching for resources.

For published resources, IG Publishing supports navigational tagging and reading orders within EPUB’s (if provided by the publisher) and advised that for those that use keyboard, text to speech or a screen reader to download resources either as EPUB or PDF depending on availability for better reading options.

Sample Viewer
The sample viewer has issues affecting readability for keyboard, screen reader and text to speech users, image descriptions of resources, magnification and colour contrast.

Screen reader users will have difficulty using the sample viewer for texts. The Sample viewer does not function with screen readers or for keyboard only users. Many resources provided by publishers are treated as images within the sample viewer and as such do not have appropriate alt text. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A).It is advised that screen reader users who wish to read samples download the sample instead. Contact IG Publishing using the methods above to apply for the trial to enable PDF downloads. All other images across the IG Library platform have appropriate alt text descriptions.

Text to speech users will have difficulty using the sample viewer to read out texts. The Sample viewer will cause significant problems and will not allow text to speech technologies to read out text. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A). It is advised that text to speech users who wish to read samples download the sample instead. Contact IG Publishing using the methods above to apply for the trial to enable PDF downloads.

The sample viewer does not offer any reflow options for desktop or mobile views. Zooming is possible but will introduce horizontal scrolling. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA). It is advised that users who wish to read samples at higher magnification download the sample instead. Contact IG Publishing using the methods above to apply for the trial to enable PDF downloads.

At 400% magnification, a level often used by those with significant vision impairments, the background on the sample viewer changes from white to black, causing significant contrast issues with the sample text as both the background and text are now black. This issue also affects magnification controls within the sample viewer at this level. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast Minimum (AA) and 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast (AA). It is advised that users who wish to read samples at higher magnification download the sample instead. Contact IG Publishing using the methods above to apply for the trial to enable PDF downloads. The rest of the website should not present any colour or contrast issues and can be used with high contrast modes or colour changers.

User guides
There are no captions for the video user guide making all instructions unusable for deaf or hard of hearing users. This fails WCAG 1.2.2 Captions (A). IG Publishing is preparing the video user guide with caption.

There is no media alternative to the video such as a written user guide with screenshots that provide the instructions in written form. Additionally, the audio descriptions in the user guide video, while present, do not give the full level of detail expected and some context is lost for users without the visuals presented alongside. This fails WCAG 1.2.3 Audio Descriptions and Media Alternative (A). IG Publishing is working on providing more alternative user guides.

Reader options
For members there are multiple options for viewing content.

Content can be viewed through the online reader, the IG app, iViewer+ or downloaded as EPUBs or PDFs depending on individual resource.

IG publishing uses Google Translation to support our customers reading sample texts. Text translations can be up to 1000 characters. Maximum number of concurrent read: 1, 3, 5 or unlimited access (refer product listed in SIP).

The online reader and iViewer+ have problems with keyboard control for magnification and other options. The online reader will allow for screen reader users to read the document and can be resized using browser zoom. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A). The system has provided the PDF download on the detail page as the alternative content access method.

The IGP app also has problems for controls with screen readers. The app can be resized to view resources but controls do not function for screen reader users.

It is advised that for those that use keyboard, text to speech or a screen reader to download resources either as EPUB or PDF depending on availability for better reading options. Using EPUB or PDFs offer added navigational benefits beyond the IG sample viewer. EPUB or PDFs have in built navigational structures and headings (depending on publisher and resource) which can help users to navigate resources easier.

If you need a resource in a format that is not available, please contact us at techsupport@igpublish.com for advice.
